A thought occurred to me this morning: given the tremendous variance in types of ballparks available in HBD, and the prevalance of offense-heavy worlds throughout the game, why not include player statistics which are adjusted to league averages, like OPS+ and ERA+? They're certainly not too difficult to calculate - can anyone think of a good reason not to include them?

(Also, can anyone point me to the list of park factors that HBD uses, so that I can calculate these stats myself in the meantime? Thanks.)

Cuz really, in the grand scheme of HBD, it doesn't mean anything?

Its fun. But it doesn't have anything to do with the game itself.

Those statistics mean about as much as batting average. Think we should get rid of AVG as well?

Hail Hail PeteC!!!

Really? Do they adjust MLB batting averages and ERAs to compare ML ballplayers to Japanese or Korean league ballplayers? I was not aware of that.

I'm not sure that's what mj was getting at.

One could compare the OPS+ or ERA+ of a player in MLB to that of a player in Japan, and I may be mistaken, but I think it would be as meaningful a comparison as from MLB in 2009 to MLB in 1975.

Perhaps, from a technological standpoint, it may even be MORE meaningful.

Ballpark independent stats would be useful for comparing within leagues. I'm not sure if he wants to compare different leagues to each other though. Well scratch that. I don't even really look at stats for evaluating players anyways. Interesting I guess is better than useful.

His mention of "the prevalance of offense-heavy worlds throughout the game" made me think that's what he was getting at... but either way, I don't think it's a useless thing to make available, as some seem to be suggesting.

I was thinking more about comparing players within leagues, but it would certainly be helpful in comparing players from different leagues as well.

Obviously ratings are always going to be more important than stats, but ballpark-independent statistics are definitely a "nice to have" that could probably be easily added to the game.

I think that there is a laundry-list of other things to be 'tweaked' long before they start producing ballpark-adjusted stats.

Agreed. In fact, I think that there is a long, long, full, full, over-flowing, bulging-at-the-seams, urgent, pressing, crying-out-to-be-done laundry-list of other things to be 'tweaked' long before they start producing ballpark-adjusted stats.
