Pre-Amateur Draft IFA bidding Topic

Is there any way the sim lets you go below $6MM in prospect budget before the amateur draft? I've been under the impression there's not a way to do it.

I'm bidding hard on an IFA and have the most prospect $ available. I've bid an amount that's beyond what anyone else can bid without cutting into the $6MM minimum prospect budget.

Maybe the IFA prefers another team even at an offer that's 1.5-2MM lower?

The $6MM minimum prospect budget is for transferring - you can't transfer out all of your money from prospect, you have to leave that $6MM in prospect budget, but you can blow that on an IFA if you choose, as opposed to a draftee.

Once the draft list drops (or draft itself, I forget which) you will have to have 28 players in rookie league to get below $6M. Prior to the draft list dropping (or draft itself, I forget which) you can bid it all. If you don't have 28 players in rookie league when that event occurs and your bid takes you below $6M prospects the engine will invalidate your bid without telling you (it has happened to me).

EDIT: So if this is in Kinsella (only one of your worlds that appears to be pre-draft), everyone can bid it all.

OK, got it. What's happening is I'm bidding against someone who has a later first-round pick than I do, so I'm holding more in reserve than he is (giving him effectively more prospect $ than I have). Thanks, all.

This isnt true, in 2 of my three worlds, Ive bid myself well under 6 million (though still enough to sign my first few rounds of draft picks), and have well under 28 players on my rookie team

Also, in Kinsella, I took a shot at one of the internationals, and bid my entire 10M budget on an international during spring training... I didnt get the guy though, but if I did, it wouldve been well worth the hit
