This is only a positive if the team you are playing has a decent RPI. Even if you win you essentially lose if they have a garbage RPI. It's not a huge impact, but it costs you a few RPI points yourself and when post-season comes around you may get out due to your RPI being one spot lower than it should be. Case in Point of why this game is a negative as of right now:
Team A 17-8 RPI 69 SOS 120
Top 150 RPI Wins
25, 18, 42, 122, 120, 142
Losses
33,16,34, 96, 18, 31, 196, 216 AVG of 80
Team B 18-8 RPI 86 SOS 125
Top 100 Wins
52, 89, 105, 119, 121
Losses
24, 63, 206, 88, 33, 8, 4, 4 AVG of 54
Record is virtually the same except for the extra 11th game win against a 215 RPI team. SOS is 5 points apart and you have to assume that one game alone brings the SOS down by 5 points.
Team A has more quality wins at the top but when comparing teams that both teams have lost to Team B has a stronger opponent record in the 8 losses. Team A has 2 ugly losses (196 and 216) Team B has 1 ugly loss (206).
The way I see it these two teams are pretty even. Only, the RPI ranker at this point separates the two by 17 points. Team A is a lock for a PIT, Team B is in the grey area at risk of not making it.
The 11th game (against any bad SIM team) even with a win could cost me a post season appearance and thats not right. Having a bye in the first round of the CT isn't good just for ensuring you make it to the second round but it any league with a lot of bad Sims it also helps ensure you have one less low RPI win to sink your SOS and RPI whereas someone who didn't have a 1st round bye has to play that game and is penalized even more for not securing a top two spot. The 11th game completely cancels out the advantage of finishing in the top two of the conference.
