HBD: Where are the oddities?? Topic

Maybe I'm just bored- but I'd like to see some of the following (only on rare occasions) to spice up HBD and better reflect the real world:

A player getting busted for drugs (perhaps his "low-make-up" is an indicator of potential problems)

A player dying in a plane crash (Hubbs, Munson, and Lidle are 3 I know of in the past 35 years)

A player rising from the Try-Out Camps to become a productive major leaguer a la Chris Coste

A player who does surprisingly well after a career of mediocre ratings... ( A suspension for PED's would not be far behind)

A player who is badly affected by off-field problems (The Big Hurt)

I'm sure there are plenty more that can be suggested and I'm also sure I'm opening up a big can of sarcasm-which is where HBD forum writers tend to shine...

Go for it!

If I woke up in the morning and I saw my player is dead it'd ruin my day.

Having some solid, quality prospects retire for no good reason is enough for me. Without all this other garbage.

But I think we're all with you on tryout camp guys. Really, that would be a function of a more robust DITR feature. The current system of "Yay! My 24th rounder now carries the value of a 17th rounder!" is insufficient.

The good year with mediocre ratings is fairly common, I find.

was definitely on steroids in Season 13.

(I have a feeling I didn't do that link right)...

His ratings actually are pretty good for AA.

How about a batter swinging at a wild pitch and getting to first base on a strikeout.

Erff's slipping. I thought by now there would have been a spoof thread titled "HBD: Where are the nudities??"

He's on a winning streak... so, I think he's afraid of getting banned (again).

You have to promote guys or they'll retire. The rule of thumb is roughly one season per level, so a third-year pro who hasn't advanced past Low A is going to retire.

To put it another way, you can have players repeat a lower level once, but you'll need to promote him before the season rolls over or he will retire.

IN real life would YOU retire or would you rather play Low A baseball until you die?
