Discussion of the trade veto. Topic

I'm not interested in starting the arguement in my league's world chat over again, so I won't provide many details. Suffice it to say that I feel that a fair trade, between two experienced owners, is being vetoed because the defending world champs improved their team by dealing a prospect, and many of that world champs competitors don't like to see them get better.
Let's just make this a hypothetical actually...

Regardless of whether this violates the fair play guidelines, I'm more interested in discussing possible variants to the veto system.

Any ideas as to how we can improve this system? Could we give the league different options on how it works? Say, some leagues require more or fewer votes for vetoes, or some require the commissioner's approval before a veto takes place? This could be known before an owner joins a world, so they are clearly aware of what kind of veto system is in place in the league they are joining.

I'd rather not have to give up a paid season for the returning world champs, as I'm going to have to do because I refuse to play in a league that uses the veto as a competitive tool.

There's nothing wrong with the veto system itself. It doesn't need to change.

In your case, the problem lies with the the other owners in the world. If you don't like the "guidelines" they play under, whether official or unofficial, then leaving the world is the right thing to do.

Im just suggesting that the veto system could have a few options, and be listed so owners could have a clear idea about the interpretation of the use of the veto before joining... So I don't waste my time and money..

sour grapes, very few deals get vetoed, this has been discussed for weeks on end

The veto system is fine.

But looking into "typical" league behaviour if you aren't the type to like being told what to do is worth doing.

using the veto as a competitive tool is against the fair play guidelines.

That's easier said than done.
I'm just going to veto every deal that ever gets made then, If trades can be vetoed just because they help my competition...

I used that arguement schedule. Even quoted the guideline directly. People came up with some interesting interpretations. It's too vaguely worded...

They've even admitted they are doing it to prevent my team from getting better...

If it's causing this kind of outcry, your team is probably awesome.

Or you've been an *******.

Either way, I'm not sure what the big deal is. It's just one trade.

Have any of them tabled the idea that it wasn't a fair trade? Because if you're getting all bent outta shape, I'll bet you "won" it pretty handily.

I read the world chat. The part you out of the sentence above is " . . . while giving up little in return".

The actual post that you apparently are paraphrasing:

11/18/2009 11:14 AMThat being said it was a savvy move by you to get him to agree to the deal, but the rest of the league sees it as the defending WS champ getting even better while giving very little in return.

Post the ratings of the players involved here and let the HBD community decide if it was a fair trade.

That wasn't the intent of this post...

Owner with 127 seasons behind him proposes a trade without any prior discussion.

His player. 29 years old with a .277 career batting average. He hadn't got any offers, wanted to ditch the 7.5 mil 3 year contract, while rebuilding. I had an excess of cap space.

And you were giving up . . . ?

My player. A y pitching prospect with one year of rookie ball behind him. Ratings project to (starting with stamina)
Projected -24 93 77 72 87 87 92 78

do I feel I got a good deal, sure. Is it an unfair trade? Not in my opinion. If I was rebuilding and wanted a pitching prospect, I'd do it for sure. In fact, I have a comparable shortstop in another league I'm trying to move, and having difficulty. If I could get this deal for him, I'd jump on it.

That link work? I'm on my phone and it's harder to link to players...
