Okay I get the whole Usage point scale (sort of) and I have learned from you guys to aim for 30 % or more OREB and 65 - 80 % AST.

What do you aim for in terms of total DREB %

Thanks in advance for this or any other team building advice. In return I will keep signing up for Theme leagues and commit to never participate in an Open league where cookie cutters players can be assembled at will.

80-90%, but many go over 100.

In Open leagues, you need more reb% than you would in a theme league that has player exclusives (ie drafts). You would think this the opposite, but in OLs, you run into moses/rodman/rodman or moses/rodman/barkley combinations a lot that will slaughter you in the playoffs.

I try and shoot for 90% dreb in OL, 80-85 in a comparable (salary-wise) theme league.

Thanks guys. Trying to learn just enough to stay competitive. I've burned out on Hoops Dynasty and so I hoping NBA Sim will be my next obsession.

Not that it matters. My 107% team just got owned on the boards. Derek strong gets 6 oreb in 16 min, while rodman gets 3 in 40. smart move to stay away from the ol.

you have to remember those numbers are just what you pay for - it's not like the squirrels running in their wheels that power the sim actually pay attention to them

does usage % matter?

I understand from teh FAQ that it affects relative touches - a guy with high usg% will have more plays run through him

but if I had a choice between a team every member of which had 20% usage and team that had 15% usage - every player - and otherwise had identical ratings would it matter at all?
11/25/2009 9:30 AM
yes - there are penalties on individual player performance for making guys exceed IRL 'touch rate'

and there is a team penalty for not fielding sufficient cumulative '5 on the floor' usage

indulge a newbie - actually I played a couple years ago under an old account, but am multiple changes behind the times

I've got a team in a theme league that is doing okay - but we have too many turnovers and our shooting on 2 point attempts is disappointing - likely to get to playoffs and doing okay

I'm thinking that a central issue for us is this usage % thing - which I ignored in team construction......??

mets, check out the thread I bumped (possession penalty - where is it?)

You'll haft to sift through a lot of garbage, but if you jump to page 5, you'll see the tiers scaled out.

Speaking of usage-
if anyone cares to look at this team perhaps you can tell my why it is 2nd to last in to's?! Makes no sense to me.

only have 8800 possessions with a 12.5% tov% in 18.6k minutes.

plus, it's early in the season.

also, the sim is pretty bad (at being consistent), but we all know that =p
11/26/2009 1:11 AM
8800 is too few for 18.6k mins I take it? I'm turning it over at about 17% right now. The SIM has been very consistent in giving me over 18 to's per game;)
11/26/2009 12:25 PM
8800 possessions might be fine... if 12.5% of those possessions weren't turnovers. As it is right now, you have more turnovers than 0.44 * FTA. That's generally a number you want close to balanced (and would really like the favoring the fta).

I've successfully ran that few possessions (up-tempo, too), but ended up close to 20 topg. That's okay if you are dominating in every other aspect. But if you're coming close (or losing) the fta/pf war, those turnovers will turn into more losses than you feel you deserve.

I'll run as high as 13 or 13.5% tov%, but my fta (modified x 0.44) will be just as high or higher, which I feel gives me a better chance to win, as the biggest determining factor in many games is "who fouls out or is in foul trouble most of the game?" If that's my opponent more than me, I'll lose the turnover war and won't worry about it.

How is your team doing in the W-L column?
11/26/2009 8:00 PM
Thanks, Ash. Great info there! I ran half court last game with only 14 to's. I might as well stick with that at least until the playoffs. 6-2 so far...
