High level D1.

Why on Earth would you leave 50k in the bank heading into signings if you don't have nothing but top flight prospects?

I've never, ever, ever, never, understood why a coach wouldn't spend at least 1/2 of that money. Personally, I'd spend it all.

I really thought the idea of recruiting was to try to acquire the best players that you could. /end random thought of the day

no idea. I did end with about 30k one year, but I only had 2 open and spent only 7k on them combined, and never found a player I thought I could get with 30k. But 50 is a lot. Got to be someone worth taking a shot at.

I blew thru 120k in Knight, and we'll be playing Golden State Warrior six man basketball this year because I didn't save any cash going into signings for a "lost my battles need a body" fund...damn the SEC!

are you busting my balls ML?

In case you are, here is my reasoning. I had considering my the #1 PG, #1 SF, #3 PG, #4 PG, #61 PG and #81 PF. I waited until after signings because I didnt have the SF locked up and was waiting to see if anyone was going to make a late poach. I also then moved on the #6 C and 11 SG.

While I agree, I could very well used that 61k to challenge someone for a top flight PF/C but just didnt wanna leave myself high and dry and sometimes you just get lucky and nobody comes along. I am in the camp of spend it all!

if you do have 50k i'd suggest not spending it on this game waiting for them to fix it...because you'll run out see.

I've often found myself w/ ove 50k at Texas. Sometimes your main targets go unchallenged, and theres nowhere else to spend the money that wouldn't be wasted. Its not the worst thing to start w/ over 12k in the bank to start recruiting the following season.

Absolutely agree, this season at Syracuse, I had over 60K . I got my primary targets really cheap. I could have stretched and battled a few other high prestige schools for players that I might have preferred, but they all were closer to those players and had more open scholarships. I think i have been building that little war chest of mine for 4-5 seasons now. That's not to say that if you are carrying over that much that you may have undershot, but each recruiting season is unique in terms of your needs, those of the schools surrounding you, the prestige levels, the carry over money, the NT and PT money, the # of open scholarships, etc... I don't think you can make a blanket statement and say that you should spend all of your money in any one season. That seems a simplistic approach.

This has happened to me several times. Never an amount that high, but a good 40K+. Like the others in this thread are saying, sometimes you can lock up all of your primary recruits without spending your entire budget. It is pointless to spend your money when there is not a single player you would rather have then the ones already considering you.

each season is unique but i had 40,000 over last season in DI and i have 35,000 this season. I started with 122,000 though. you can get your guys and still have a bunch . just depends on the circumstances. i've also had 0 and not even filled all of my schollies.

If you have that kind of $$$ , why wouldn't you find a direct competitor and force them to spend unneeded funds? Potentially create a situation where you may not get the recruit, but you put them in a such a bad spot that they don't get another of their main targets.

wait... let me understand... you said "going into signings?" not"after recruiting is done?"

if you have a 5 or 6 man class and have two or three big recruits comnsidering you and/or you are in battles and/or you expect that latecomers may challenge you......

I would be very concerned if i didnt have at least $40 or $50K.

you would suggest pouring that money into a battle over another good player? and expose yourself and leave yourself high and dry if anyoen challenges your other recruits? insane. not to metnion, $50K is often not enogh money to win a battle where you come in late, especially if you are at a distance disadvantage. and im guessing any recruit you would jump on late would probly not be a locacl?

im really confused as to the purpose of this thread. im guessing an inside joke. ?

i would be very concerned if a vet like mlat does not realize that you need to keep funds in your bank to ward off poachers and finish off battles? very strange.

one other issue is that you have to take your bottom prosepct (who may be a nice project player that you are very interested in) and pull his scholly offer, which opens up the real possibility of losing him. all due to a last ditch effort to throw money at a a rectuit that you probably wont even get?

dont get it.

at all

That's what I was going to say; I know you, l_eustachy and oldman often had hordes of cash over, because your prestige was so high, people rarely would battle you, and you're in remote areas, which decreases the likelihood of a battle even more.

And I can't speak to taz or l_e, but I do know that oldman had no problem taking his money and poking his head out of Texas to come into the state of Colorado :)
