Hello All,

It seems I post this same message every time job applications come open...so here it goes:

(I should probably preface this by saying that I was planning on staying at NGU regardless of D1 openings, but I was surprised to find out that I wasn't eligible for any jobs anyways.)

What does it take to move to D1? I figured I'd be eligible for at least some of the lowest prestige D1 jobs this time around...But nothing!

I assume it's a loyalty thing and not a success thing (though my success is mediocre).

Thanks for any insights.

From my personal experience it was at least 3 post season appearances (NT or PI) in 4 seasons. Even then I was only eligible for the lowest level D1 jobs.

Just to clarify I had a first round NT exit a PI 2nd round appearance, and a PI championship in 4 seasons before I ever became eligible.

I would guess that resume would be eligible for very low-level DI, though it's possible you'd be just short since there's only one DII NT appearance. But they may just be (rightfully) penalizing you for the cherry pick.

Is it telling you that you're qualified for D- DI jobs? If it's saying you're qualified but then you get denied upon application, that's a loyalty issue. If you're not qualified, that's resume.

I think you should have to spend four seasons at one DII school before being eligible for DI.

It's telling me that I'm not qualified for any D1 jobs. Must be a resume thing.

This coach was not eligible for any d1 jobs. I was surprised by it, looks like you need just a little more. If he would have won one of those postseason games maybe he would have been eligible.

That doesn't surprise me, you generally have to get to the NT, which I think is very reasonable.

Back to back NTs in D2 will do it for sure.

I agree Reinsel.

I wonder if there's a "longevity" factor as well. There are several D1 coaches who have won and loss more games than me, but have only made it to the NT 1 or 2 times.

I think there is, if you are at D2 for a long time, you can get in with less, but if you don't have tons of D2 experience, NTs will do it.

There's also an issue (if I read the dev. chats right) of whether the players are recruited by you. The success at a school is modified (presumably multiplied) by the percentage of players on the team recruited by you. I think it was based on minutes played?

The real issue here is that a 4 year resume might qualify a coach for D1 if all the players were recruited by that coach. That same resume might not qualify them if they occurred in your first couple years when players recruited by other players are likely contributing.

This is probably (but not necessarily) the case for bigdave, who has a resume that looks good enough for a low level D1 job, but because he's hopped around programs, he (probably) hasn't had his own players getting all the playing time, and so has his accomplishments reduced with regards to job consideration.

There's a big gig in the Big East in Rupp. Mighty Pitt is open.
