Does anyone know if a player with a 1 work ethic and good numbers other places, plus a high upside, will ever improve? This guy is better than average if he never improves, but it would be nice to see at least a little...(LOL)

Feel lucky if you get double digit increase in total skills in any of his years.

If you want to know what a 1 WE player looks like after the season is over, this is it. This guy is my backup sg on a dIV II team getting almost 10 minutes a game as a freshman. He was a dropdown from DIV I. He was high potential in BH, per, pass, ath, spd and def. and avg everywhere else except FT and LP. As you see he went up 3 total points over a season.

Another example of a 1 WE player

I got this guy because he was a D1 dropdown and his Ath and Speed were already high, had high potential in ath, speed, LP and blocking plus Average Rebounding.

He gets 16 minutes a game as a sophomore because I don't have a suitable backup yet. He isn't awful because he came in with ok ratings, but you can see the growth he has made as a sophomore

I decided to try the 1 WE because I needed big men bad when I took over the team but clearly won't try this again

Low WE players such as this can be useful, but you better be comfortable playing them at the ratings you recruit them at. You may get minor bumps over the course of their career, but what you recruit is what you'll have to deal with.

As long as you're fine with that, then you can get a nice player with little battle during recruiting. It also helps to ensure the player already plays your sets.

Anyone under 15 WE just isn't worth it.

What furry said.

surely during recruiting a coach can find someone (anyone) else who will be a better jr/sr. And if you can't then a walkon is preferable.

Maybe not. If it's your last year at a school and the guy can put in minutes THIS year it might be worth it. But I wouldn't know since I'm a bad enough coach promotions are few and far between.

How much does work ethic impact IQ advancement?

Huge. I had a non-qualifier (2.0 hs gpa) with a WE of 13 and his IQ improved at about 60% of a normal recruit. Even through he played 20 minutes his first season and started as a second year guy.

I thought so. I don't usually even look at a guy under a 30 WE unless I am looking for a specific year or something (looked for 2 junior transfers this year to balance out recruiting classes, so had to take a guy with less)
