Over-recruiting? Topic

Is it possible to over-recruit a player? 2 of my targets were griping about the amount of letters I was sending in their responses...are they really getting ****** at me or is this standard, run of the mill sim-mail stuff? I thought most of the goal of recruiting was to be the guy who spent the most money on X recruit to get him.

Yes. It is possible to irritate a recruit with too many letter and/or calls. Don't worry about the first time you are notified. Consider it a "warning" and don't continue. BTW, this was implemented because some coaches (like jenningss) years ago would recruit across vast distances with hundreds and hundreds of calls and letter.

But isn't the goal really to spend the most money on the guy to get him to your school or no?

No, spending the most money is not the goal. Plenty of coaches have outspent their opponent for a prospect and lost. The type of recruiting tool the money is spent on makes a major difference. For example, a $10 phone call is no where close to the same value as a $10 promise of guaranteed playing time. "Face time" tools (evals, HVs, CVs) have more impact on a recruit than calls and letters. Distance and Prestige can also impact the amount of money spent.

once upon a time, there was a gap in the game design that let people recruit players with literally 100 or 200 or 300 phone calls

that was fixed - and at some level around 40 calls or letters (separately) the recruits get annoyed and then the calls dont do any good - may even do harm

always keep in mind it isnt spending money that counts - it is recruiting effort for which the $$ are a proxy - but as weena says its the effort and the impact not the $$

i had been told about 40 calls (also 40 letters) would trigger the "stop callng response"

but I have noticed the "quit sending letters" response way before 40... usually around 20 i think. and i am usually able to make something closer to 60 calls.

but its prolly been a good 6-8 months or more since i have pushed these limits, so maybe a change?

bottom line...
its really no big deal as long as you keep an eye on the responses and back off if you get a negative one.

Money is only the means used to dictate how much recruiting power you can spend. Money is not directly related to where a recruit signs.
