Redshirting Top 50 players Topic

After so many bad experiences, I haven't tried redshirting anyone in years. So currently -- anyone know how hard it is (how much effort is needed) for an A+ prestige team to successfully hit the RS button on a guy <180 miles away who's ranked 30-50th at his position? Would I be looking at $12K? $40K? Thanks.

If he is going to accept it at all, it will cost around 6K. Some players will not take it no matter how much you spend, though.

Interesting sidenote, I was just recruiting a 5 star Intl and was losing the battle so I wanted to get off his list. I pulled his offer and informed him of RS. I could not get off his list though, since he was 100% COOL WITH THE RS!

Unbelievable, but it seems Intl recruits are fair game for a RS no matter what their star rating is.

Huh -- I had no idea. For some reason I thought the more you spent, the higher the likelihood.

Follow-up questions:

1) this $6K number -- is that for a guy who's 30th at his position? Does it change for someone in the teens or 20s?

2) Any ideas what the odds are of a guy in the 30s or 40s accepting?

Thanks!

I believe its extremely hard to get top 25 guys to accept the RS. I think if you have depth already on your team at his psotion, the 26 + guys have a decent likelyhood of being ok with it..good luck

I think I spent between 10-12K to get the #33 PF to redshirt last season in Phelan. Have not tried to redshirt a top 25 by position player for some time.

The international redshirt glitch is something I noticed as well several seasons back when I tried to get a five star international off my considering list and he was enthusiastic about the redshirt.

i have never seen any correlation between depth chart and likelihood of accpeting a redshirt.

What I have seen a correlation between is EE and redshirt players, so unless your roster is better without the frosh on it (which might happen in some cases) or the player in ? has low WE, redshirting a top 25 type guy does not make that much sense anyhow

The 6K amount was for a local recruit. What I am saying is that some players will NEVER accept a RS. If they happen to be one of the players who will accept a RS in the top 50, then it will not cost a whole lot of $ in my experience.

I agree with OR's last post 100%

I think that may be true once they're on your roster, but I agree with OR/pork that there's no correlation during recruiting w. the RS button, which is what jeffdrayer is asking about.

Also, I think the $6K figure is very iffy. A lot of it depends on how much you already have into a recruit. But I think the statement that it would only take $6K of extra effort for a top 25 recruit to be OK w. the RS button is really, really lowballing it. I'm certainly not saying it's impossible, but in general I don't think it's that low.

I think you are confused on where that 6K amount came from, dalter. Please read my last post. He said an A+ prestige school and a local recruit. If the player will ever accept a RS, then 6K will be enough.

I was thinking of trying this for this round of recruiting.  Has there been any other experience with this in the last year?
