DIII stealing a DII recruit from SIMAI Topic

Is it possible for a DIII school to grab a recruit away from a DII SIMAI school? If so, how difficult is it?

I was messed up thinking this was a D2/D1 question.

edit: You might have a shot vs. a D- D2 school if you are local...you have the cash. But you probably cannot steal one of their primary recruits. You might have put $7500 to $12500 into someone. That is a lot and leaves you vulnerable.

I've done it, and I had to spend something like $7k to win. One thing you'd wanna do is to use FSS to see how *tight* he is with the other school. If he's *very tight*, I'd forget about it. If he's "wide open" then go ahead.

Highly unlikely you just don't have enough money at d3, I wouldn't try it.

i disagree completely, as a d3 school i had more battles with d2 schools than d3 schools. you have to step carefully, but if you do, you can still win the large majority of your battles. at the high point, i took a guy off an a- d2 school coached by a good coach, who i would be cautious to battle even at my d2 program. most of the battles are for the top tier of guys i sign, too. so i think you give up pretty much by automatically throwing out any player being considered by a d2 school.

I think it can be done...see my above post, but you have to have what redbaron has...A+ prestige and a ton of NT/PT money. With $10,000 to spend on a local recruit, you can battle D2 schools for sure.

I did not mean that it absoultely could not be done but that I would step very very lightly as you could eaisly lose said player and waste almost all of your d3 budget.

you don't battle them long range though, right?

i am not just saying its possible, i did it all the time, maybe once per 2-3 seasons. i think top d3 programs should be fairly open to battling d2 schools.

I think it is better to try and find someone else due to the cost. sims are easier targets but is it worth it? probally not

Yeah. Red Baron is a kind of a special case, his conference probably got $8,000 or so in NT/PT money.

Edit: I did the math and it was $5750, which is quite the haul for D3.

If you have alot of ships available and xtra money then its ok for the right guy I guess. I have never done d3-d2 only d2-d1 against a sim. I try to avoid battles in d3 it just seems that the $ you have is limited and there are tons of guys with similar skill sets

there are tons of guys with similar skill sets in d3? i have only found that to be true for the 98% of recruits that are horrible. the top 2% have huge differentiation from the pack, IMO.
