Playing C at SF Topic

I've seen this discussed in the forums before, but I can't remember if there was ever a consensus reached - how much of a penalty is there for a player playing 2 slots out of position? I'm trying to play my center Porath at SF because I don't have much there and I'm not sure it's going to be worth it.

Opinions/ideas?

The penalty isn't much, but with how recruits are currently generated good luck finding a center that has the ath/spd to play the 3.

He's 68 spd, 63 ath with 90+ reb/blk/def and is a reasonable ballhandler and passer for DII (27 bh, 46 pass). I'm leaning toward giving it a shot.

thats sounds like it may work.....

agree about the penalty but, you sure you want to waste that guy at the 3? looking at your team I think you have better options.

he's a nice center and can always play some back-up at the 3

What about this center at the 3 spot in D3?

if you are leaning towards giving something a shot, do it! if you are not confident in something, all the more reason to experiment. i always put learning over success, its always worth losing a few games today to win a championship (or something) tomorrow. especially if they are regular season games. losing an extra couple of those due to experimentation is fairly insignificant by the post season, especially if its early. my best teams probably lose way more than comparable teams across the country, because winning regular season games is one of the lowest priorities for those teams of mine. its basically a non factor. in some cases, i would actually prefer to lose more games.

I've done it before. Need to have the right type of guard, and make sure your guards both have some good perimeter shooting, unless your center was unusual and had perimeter too.

A, a few seasons back when i was at montclair st i had 6'10 sf. He was kinda ackward he wasnt a bad passer. Fred Poore he was 6'7 when i recruited him grew 3 inches during his time at montclair st - 14th all time in points 1,181 (9.6ppg), 4.5rpg, 1.8apg, 1.5tpg, - 48.9% from the field, 39.9% from three, like 68% from the line for his career.

I have played a 6'7 center at sf- Michael Dionne he's averaged like 13ppg there has had some turnover problems but his passing and ball handling skills are in the low 20's
