phillyfan009, I'd suggest you start a thread in the Hardball Dynasty Classified section and ask prospective leagues to tell YOU why you should join their league. HBD worlds have a vested interest in recruiting new owners and RETAINING them by helping them learn the game.
HBD is complex and every new owner is somewhat overwhelmed by it all. But joining a world that actively recruits you, helps you understand the "ins and outs" AND has a strong, stable ownership base will ensure you don't get frustrated by the complexity and the potential mistakes.
DON'T look at worlds with more than 5 openings - no offense to those worlds, but really strong worlds have little to no turnover, year-to-year.
DO ask questions - why is the team available? How balanced is the league (i.e. has one team won the last 5 WS titles or 110 games every single year)? What is the culture of the world like (some leagues, like Moonlight Graham are filled with degenerate scumbags who say not-nice things about each other, while others, like Kinsella, have a more sedate and erudite membership that can, at times, be less than entertaining in its chat)
DON'T take a team without looking at the history (has it been .500 forever? a perennial loser? a former champion on the way down?) and the contract commitments in future seasons.
DO get a mentor. Check the pinned thread at the top of this forum for a list.
Good luck.
