When recruiting began in Allen I threw the redshirt on a sophomore player that I might want to redshirt. He took it.

I'm not sold on the idea that I want him to redshirt -- I've since signed a freshman that might be a better candidate. But with a D3 program I don't have the money to spend to make sure that the freshman takes it. I'll have to roll the dice.

If I gamble on the freshman and fail, will I have troubles getting the sophomore to accept the redshirt again? Or will he demand some syrup as he WE gets cut by 70%?

So I assume the SOPH was a player you signed the previous season or is he a JUCO you signed this season? You weren't clear about that.

Assuming it is the former, then, yes, you will be rolling the dice on whether he will accept it again.

I only tried this once. I had a Soph accept, changed to another player who rejected it and then the Soph would not take it the next time. I only tried it once, so now if a Soph agrees, I just stick with it.

Most definately keep it if you can work with it. It's hard enough to get one to stick on a frosh you didn't inform, but a sophomore has an even higher threshold.
