highest-rated team to miss the NT? Topic

i know, i know, overall ratings mean nothing. But i'm about to miss the NT in Naismith with my NC State team, overall rating right now 784 (CT semis tonight).

Anyone ever missed with a higher-rated team, or am i officially on the short list for worst coach ever? Not that i don't deserve to be there anyway, but...

I remember having a Rutgers team that was high in the 700s with mostly seniors, however can't recall exactly what number it was.

I'm about the miss the NT in Naismith with an 819 team (Syracuse). I've seen a couple 800+ teams miss it.

I had a 791 squad before potential, which is to say when it was much harder to have a 791 squad. Granted, I ran everyone at 0 dist. because I was too frustrated with the engine to care anymore. But I think a random sampling of Smith SEC coaches will tell you that without a doubt, if you're looking at successful outcomes in relation to baseline player talent -- on a game by game basis I'm the worst coach in HD.

i have had an 815 UCLA team miss in IBA

I had a 545ish div III team miss it. We only lost 3 games, but with a 300+ SOS even running the table it was likely the CT was the only way in.

Ya Furry it seems to happen more in D3 that you have a good team in the mid 500's + that miss it since everyone is more bunched together it seems. I will probably have a team like yours in Phelan this year.

That's actually why it doesn't happen more in DIII, but rather DI. In DI you have have a human coached team that's 815 or 650. There's a much bigger discrepancy, so if there are several dozen teams in the same stratosphere, it's not terribly significant if you don't make it, at least in comparison to DI.

i felt better about pottle missing it, until i looked at his team, and it is 9 fr/sophs, 2 jrs, 1 sr. at least that can be blamed on inexperienced players/bad IQs, whereas my team has 5 SRs...

damn it, still on the short list.
