I have a deal alreayd accepted and pending. The coach who is getting the player wants em to sign him to a multiple year deal (the player is arb eligible and has not been signed to a new contract yet). If I do it myslef will it void the trade?

wouldnt it depend on salary cap space?

Sorry, I was assuming the OP was asking if it would be voided based on the change from a $0 salary to a $xxx salary and I answered based on that.

If, in fact, the newly-signed contract causes the team receiving the player to go over its cap this season or any subsequent season, then yes it would be nullified.

I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, even if it does NOT put anybody over the cap in any year.

Think about it: you have some extra cap room, so you agree to take on a 33-year-old with a $12 mil contract who isn't worth the money anymore (in steep decline), but fits your plans, fills a positional need, etc and it's the final year of his deal. While the trade is pending, the other owner signs him to a 5-yr/$50mil deal. Wouldn't you EXPECT that trade to be voided? I certainly would. The other owner is going to have to extend the player once the trade goes through, or you could do it and then resubmit the trade after it is voided.

I was under the assumption that anything that changes the contract status of a player between the time the trade was accepted and the trade was cleared, with the exception of an arb hearing, would void the trade.
