Hi guys. I had a quick question/thought as I am pretty new and am not sure if this is an issue.

I have noticed that my players will digress, but they will not continue to progress later in their career. IMO some attributes should continue to go up even after a player is past his prime. For instance:

Baserunning (I am taking this as baserunning knowledge/skill)
Patience
Batting eye
Make-up
Skill in the splits.

Some players keep learning the game into their late 30s especially pitchers. Maddox, Jamie Moyer, Pedro all got clinical once their physical skill dropped off.

That is just from the top of my head.

Do these continue and am I not seeing it? Is it worth asking the development team to consider it?

I've seen it happen. Typically in the "skill" ratings you point out, too.

You have to have a pretty big training budget, and I'd imagine the player's makeup has something to do with it, too.

Playing time (or lack thereof) will also contribute.

Whenever you try to equate HBD and RL it will confuse you. A simulation is not a mirror. Keeping that in mind will give you an enormous edge over most of your competition, as evidenced daily in the forums.

It does happen on rare occasions with the "skill" ratings (as opposed to the "physical" ratings). As iain pointed out, you have to have the right set of circumstances to even allow for the possibility (training, makeup, playing time, maybe something else) and even then it's no guarantee (in my experience).

I don't think it should be much more common, though. You named three guys, and I could argue only Moyer *really* fits the idea you're going for since Maddux was "clinical" throughout his career and Pedro was never nearly the same pitcher once the physical tools/injuries changed (him). These are the exception, rather than the rule.

True story, I was at a game where Curt Schilling and Greg Maddux pitched against each other with a final score of 1-0 (phillies win) and like 5 total hits in the game. I think both pitchers had a complete game. It was the best pitching dual I have ever seen. Anyway, a guy I know saw Maddux at a restaurant after the game and asked him what his thoughts were on the game and he said it was as good as having lemon juice poured on a paper cut. Gotta love the competitive spirit.
