I got this guy as part of a trade.

I figured he would be a AAA insurance type of arm. MIssed the fact that his contract was MLB-type. I don't want him on my MLB roster. But it won't let me assign him to AAA or AA.

Is my only option to send another MLB arm down, then place this guy on the MLB roster..then demote him from there and bring the other guy back up?

Dang, I would rather release the guy than do that.

He has no options, so you can't send him down without passing him through waivers.

He may have to be on the ML roster to pass him through waivers.

You can always release him without assigning him, if you're serious about that.

You can put him on waivers and see if he clears, then send him down. If he isn't that important to you, do it now.

If you want to keep him, wait until the trading deadline passes, then try to pass him through with revokable waivers. If someone claims him, you won't lose him. If no one claims him, you can send him down.
