Post-Deadline Deals, Playoff Eligibility Topic

Just dealt for a quality gentleman on another team's 40 man roster, an ML player, after the trading deadline.

How do I get him onto my playoff roster? Can I? The GM office tells me he in ineligible as he was not on my 40man.

Thanks in advance for advice and guidance.

You can't. Has to be on YOUR 40 man roster at the deadline.

Got it - thanks. For some reason thought there was a way.

If you make it to the 2nd round, you can add him when you are betwixt round 1 and 2

No you can't.

it is called the "trading deadline" for a reason

I assume we're all talking about the "Set postseason roster" deadline and not the "Trading deadline".

Actually, it's really the "non-waiver trading deadline".

If a player is not on your 40 at the "set post-season roster" deadline, he cannot be added to your playoff roster.

From the FAQ:

Playoffs
I just had a player get injured during the playoffs. Can I adjust my roster?
No, playoff roster changes can only be made in between rounds of the playoffs once the next round has been scheduled. This means you may have to play shorthanded for the remainder of a round should an injury occur during a playoff series.

and:

Playoffs
Player A is on my ML roster, why can't I see him during the playoffs?
Player's are not automatically added to the playoff roster. You must add the player to your playoff roster in order to use them in playoff games. Keep in mind that roster moves during the playoffs can only be made in between rounds.

I take that to mean that you can make additions/subtractions from/to the playoff roster between rounds. Am I wrong?

If a player is on your 40 man roster at the "set post-season roster" deadline, he can be added/removed to your 25 man "active" roster. If he isn't, he cannot be added.

Assuming the players being added are (a) on the major league roster, and (b) have their "Playoff Roster" status set as "eligible", this is correct.

This is not right. You can add players to your 40 man roster making them eligible for the playoff roster as long as it is by time when rosters expand. The trade deadline does not matter. This only means you can trade players, out of options, unless they 1st clear waivers. If they have cleared waivers or are minor leaguers at the time, you can trade for them and add them to your playoff roster at any time after that before the playoffs as long as they are on/added to your 40 man. I hope I made this clear enough.
