max contract tiebreak? Topic

so this is what i found to be the tiebreakers when two teams offer a player a max contract:

"The logic for when two ML free agents or International free agents are offered the same value for a contract will see some adjustments. There will be a few tiebreakers introduced before relying on the time the first contract was offered. The tiebreakers are as follows: Playoff contention (based on last seasons winning %), coaching staff, and ballpark."

assuming these are correct (and assuming coaching staff= hitting coach for free agent batters and pitching coach for free agent pitchers, which i believe i read somewhere), why did this player sign with the detroit team in Camp and not mine (scranton)?

Lonny Fuller

any help in understanding this player's decision would be appreciated

I can't explain it but I would like to see the guy that was drafted ahead of this guy. Maybe the guy with the #1 pick couldn't see this guy? Or he didn't look at his position and defensive ratings.

You didn't have the cap room to sign him once Miro was signed. They were signed during the same cycle.

Well, assuming the tiebreakers are working as they should, I can only guess that the coaching staff plays a larger role than I would have anticipated.

You have a very poor ML hitting coach (63 Hitting IQ, 28 Patience) and he has a much better ML hitting coach (79 Hitting IQ, 72 Patience).

Did you miss the coach hiring time?

nah i backed out after i was outbid and then offered the miro contract.

But from http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/FranchiseProfile.aspx?fid=886 (the franchise page) I see what I posted as the coaches.

Perhaps the tie-breaker is "seeing" the same crappy coaches that come up for me when I look at the franchise profile?

I see the same thing Z does, it's from the link you provided....
1/20/2010 6:51 PM
if so thats a huuge bug because those aren't even any of my coaches, let alone the correct ratings. i dont see how that can be it
1/20/2010 6:51 PM
i might just suck at posting links. entirely possible. either way, harris is my hitting coach, and he was resigned before coach hiring so its not like i was bidding on a hitting coach while offering fuller that deal. i could possibly see in that situation where the player would read "0" as my hitting coach's iq but, like i said, not the case here.
