No, although it doesn't sound easy. Read oldave's FB Zone thread.

It's not easy to run FB at D1 unless you have an Elite program already. The types of players that work at D2 and D3 don't at D1 since most of your opponents are going to have speed, shooting, defense and rebounding everywhere. You need certain advantages/match-ups to help the break work, and those are really hard to come by at D1.

The worst part of the FB is that there is no slow down option, so...if you are building up a program you will suffer from not "stealing" those 2-3 games a year by running a slowdown, keeping the game close and praying the other team struggles. You tend to get run out of the building...

Another negative is that the opposite works well on you. Teams can play a slowdown which leads to less shot's taken which leads to less chances for you to run.

I've had alot of success at D2/D3 running the break, but DI is a different beast. It can and has been done, but it's just not easy :)

Only because you didn't game plan :p

my texas team in knight is pretty consistently good, and won one title, it is not impossible in d1, just tricky, although I don't gameplan much either, I know oldave does maybe as much as anyone in the game

does anyone know if FB is being eliminated in the new engine?????

If it's eliminated as an offense, and it probably should be, I'd like to see it as added as a game option -- fastbreak at every opportunity; fastbreak sometimes; fastbreak never. You should still have to practice it, but a minimal amount of time should be able to improve it steadily -- like 5 minutes.

i do not think there is any situation where FB is advantageous.. at least not in the long haul and not in D1.

if you have an elite team, and you are in a locale where you can consistently rack up fast/athletic and talented recruits, then you can succeed with the FB...but i still submit youwont be as consistently good as you would otherwise be.

I disagree with this and agree with OR. Fastbreak is definitely better than other offenses for certain kinds of teams. If you can consistently recruit talented players, you can consistently succeed with the fastbreak. If you can't, you won't consistently succeed, probably at a rate higher than other offenses, but if that weren't the case, everyone would be running fastbreak.
