I like this idea on recruiting Topic

Quote: Originally posted by dakmmeca01 on 1/20/2010I was looking at recruiting and wondered if playing games in certain states may or should have an impact on recruiting the following recruiting season. For instance, my team Tuskegee is in AL and the state with the largest recruiting base by me is FL. If I schedule games in FL (away games for my team) and win would it make since for my school to have a slight advantage over the school I played and beat and possibly improve my prestige with recruits in that state? I ask since I didn't see this issue in the Developer chat. Any thoughts?

I pulled this from the Tark board over here to get more views on it for dak. I really like this idea though. It would bring a different level to HD where certain games would give you a boost for the region. So lets say your a B+ and another team is A- but your from within 100 miles of each other.

You win the game and its actually like you have A- and they have the B+ then when your battling over a recruit between the two of you. Hd could even add in a schedule a series option so as long as the two coaches are there or its SIMAI you can schedule a 2,4,6 game series which would alternate locations every year for the duration.

I don't like the recruiting element of it...but I love the idea that you schedule a series, as opposed to just a single game.

This goes along with the oft suggested ideas of (1) building a pipeline to a certain city or area and (2) gaining an advantage if you have a player on your roster who is from the same school that a prospect you like is from. These and dak's idea are great in the real world but I believe they would be very tough to incorporate into HD.

One reason is that they would be a nightmare to keep track of. If you take over a new team, how are you going to know who the previous coach (or sim ai) played the previous season. Even if WIS would send an email, there would still be issues - coaches who can't or don't fill a complete schedule and sim ai teams who schedule the overs.

It is also geographically biased. Some areas have good teams in areas you would normally recruit in and some areas are sparse. Some coaches schedule based on building a good RPI and that often involves playing teams 1500-2000 miles away. There would be coaches screaming bloody murder because of the inequities of scheduling.

I'm not suggesting that these are by any means bad ideas, however they need to be thought out and work-arounds for the road blocks need to be created. Maybe after seble is finished with the new engine release he will be willing to revisit recruiting.

It woudl be nice from my perspective if a coach coudl gain reputations for developing certain positions. Like I guy who keeps getting all american centers, or getting centers Drafted, then gets a considering bonus of some sort when tryign to recruit a center. Or something.

Speaking of recruiting. .at dI how high up the food chain on things like stars will generally bother to talk to you with a c prestige?

I think that we should just eliminate every cycle before signings start and make cycles 8 hours long.

Well you could have a map that was 500 miles around you. The area would be divided up into say 10 zones, with school in your division showing up on the map and trying to divide schools evenly.

Then when you schedule games in areas around your school you can get a boost when you play games in that zone and win. It could show up as a color code. Win 1-2 games in a season get a 1/3 of a letter, win 3+ games and get 2/3 of a letter increase. The zone which you reside in you would have to win say 7 Games (which is equivalent to winning all conference home games except 1) to get the 1/3 of a letter and 10 games (equivalent all conference home games + 2 non-con games) to get the 2/3 of a letter.

This home game increase would make teams schedule Non-cons at home possibly more then as well trying to get to the game win limit around your school.

Yeah its an interesting idea, but gets complex to code and pay attention to if you have more than 1 team.

How does it affect your image in the eyes of a recruit if you withdraw a scholarship offer. He has not yet responded to the scholarship offer...so I am guessing he has not yet heard of it. If I withdraw it now...will it be like I never offered it?

I like ideas like this but agree that they may be difficult to execute. If you want to add this type of dimension to recruiting, I suggest using the assistant coach as a recruiting strength. I know that hiring AC's has been on the drawing board forever, but if it happens, I'd like to see regional recruiting strengths factor into the hiring process.

So as a coach in AL, you can hire a guy who has a history in FL (Juco coach, high school star, etc) to strengthen your recruiting efforts there.

At the same time, it would allow coaches in those sparse areas to level the playing field a bit.

Two simpler concepts: 1) When you recruit an ineligible player at DI, be able to leave another scholly out to an extra player in case ineligible player goes JUCO? 2) Be able to offer "invited walk-on" spot to an actual created player at a lesser amount than the $100 for a scholly -- you still might have to recruit him some, calls, letters -- so that you don't end up with the pitiful walk-ons we get now? The player could accept or not, depending on your team's prestige and how highly rated he might be, proximity to your school, etc. A really good program should be able to get a decent walk-on.
