if i trade for someone after playoff rosters have expanded who is at the ML level and on the 40 man with the team he is currently on, will he be on my 40 man and playoff roster once i get him? i would think that would be the case but wanted to know if anyone knew for sure

No, players have to be on YOUR 40 man roster when the "set post-season roster" dates arrives.
