another perverse incentive for tanking Topic

with all the tanking discussions, i thought i'd bring up another incentive that tankers have:

in MLB, players become type A free agents because of a numerical rating. if one team signs multiple type As, the team that lost the player with the higher rating gets the higher pick.

in HBD, players also become type A free agents because of ratings. if one team signs multiple type As, though, the team with the poorer record gets the higher pick.

in other words, losing games means that your draft pick will be higher (which is how it should be), but it also means that any comp picks you get will also be higher (which is not good). even tankers have type A free agents sometimes.

the team that lost the better player (by rating) should get the higher pick, just like in MLB. you could argue that this give bad teams the incentive to sign better players, but it really just gives tankers another way to turn losing into star players in a manipulative way.

I agree- but there should be a normalizing factor for position group, not just straight overall rating.

the better(lower) pick should go to the team losing the higher paid player.

There is no way to stop a tanker. A blatant one maybe but some are pretty crafty although we always know who they are anyway.

You could have wis give the real name of the tanker and then we could draw and quarter him as an example. This would stop tanking!!
