Coach accepts lesser offer Topic

Open bidding, same role, neither of us is his old franchise. The difference is very small ($52K, ~1.5%) but he rejects my offer and signs with a club offering him less. Anybody seen this before?

My educated guess would be that the coaches also consider the quality of the franchise when accepting offers, just like the players do. Is the other franchise of a higher quality?

Only if quality is inversely proportional to wins. He picks #1 in the draft this season, I pick #31.

Ticket in, awaiting response.

That is curious...I'd be interested to hear their response.

ballpark factor? just a shot in the dark, but maybe.

I remember reading somewhere that players will give a slight edge to a team that gives them a better "opportunity" (i.e. better coaches, better record, etc). In that vein, maybe coaches are more likely to sign with teams that give them more of an "opportunity" to showcase their coaching skills by giving them a bunch of young and unproven players? That's about the best possibility I can come up with.

Just curious, what level and role?

Now that the coach hiring process is essentially all done, I'll give details: Fielding coach, bids were $3.57M and $3.622M. Hard to figure out the role of ballpark here.

First ticket response was, "He had already accepted the offer when you made the bid." Which was not true, but is very interesting-- it implies that a coach may sign before assessing all bids in a particular cycle, which is kind of weird if it's correct.

That seems impossible since if a coach accepts an offer you obviously can't bid anymore. It seems more like a glitch than anything if a coach can actually just randomly accept offers at any point during a cycle instead of waiting until the end of a cycle.

How do you know that?

I know that because I made the offer at 7:34 and he signed at 11:18. Agreed to by Customer Support.

However, it turns out that what CS was trying to say was, in fact, correct-- it was just a word choice issue. What happened was that at PM2 cycle 2 he signed before he looked at my bid. Which is fine-- that happens in real life. It's important to know that sometimes coaches will sign with whoever had the highest bid in the previous half-cycle, regardless of what you do during that half-cycle. It may well be that Intl's and FA's do the same.

Hmm, you turned up some important info.

Now guys will be at the computer ... refresh ... refresh .. refresh ... refresh ... refresh .. refresh ... refresh .. refresh ... refresh ... refresh ... refresh .. refresh ... refresh ... refresh .. refresh ... refresh ... refresh .. refresh ... refresh ... refresh .. refresh ... refresh ... refresh .. refresh ... just to try to be first to sign a coach or a player in a cycle.

Not so sure this is good news, eh?
