40 Man Roster Update Topic

I like that this update makes it more real and closes some loopholes, but I think its going to emphasize a need for them to fix career minor leaguers demanding $3 mil etc. Now I can't add these guys to my 40 so there going to become FA, demand more than anyone will ever pay them, and leave teams with fewer options for AAA SP's and up the middle players.

I think you're confused about the update... you can add anyone you want to the 40 at any time. It's removing them that's being updated where they must clear waivers first.

I think Gman means that the waiver requirement will discourage teams from protecting career minor leaguers before rollover and I agree that there will be a ton of 6yr FAs with OV ratings in the low 60s demanding $multimillion contracts and remaining unemployed.

I also agree that this should be fixed. While there may be a hundred real life AAA players who think they deserve major league contracts as 6 year FAs each year, none of them will hold out after camps open rather than look for the best AAA opportunity for the new year.

It is, however, possible that we will see a worldwide pandemic of waivers 24-48 hours before Rule5 Day each year, which would reduce the probability of losing any given career minor leaguer waived.

You can refuse to sign them.

If a guy is a 6 year pro and not kept on the 40, it's time to let him go. You have no use for him. Sign your picks, even the low level ones and you won't have any issue filling out your minors leagues. Dick it up, like most do, and you have issues.
