Double Team Backup? Topic

I have a game coming up where their stud scorer is a SG combined with a PF underneath as well.

I was wondering what people thought to double-teaming the backup SG who is a D- in the offense and is only 25/25 for PA/BH at the D2 level. Is this something I should do, or should I not worry about it him at all?

You can site mail me if you want more precise info or want to give me a breakdown of what you would do and don't want to post it on here. Thanks!

I have a similar situation. I'm playing a guy in D1 with a "spaz" walk-on PG getting 10-12 minutes a game. I guess he had a tough recruiting year. Anyway, logic would dictate that I could trap this guy and get a ton of turnovers. Does anyone out there DT bad ball handlers or passers? Spazzes? Or, do you stick to double teaming scorers. I don't want to make things easy on the guys who will actually be shooting. I've tried it against post men, but I can't say I noticed a difference. It impacted maybe a couple possessions. I'm going on recollection here, no data.

No, do not DT the spaz. It will open things up for the players that actually shoot.

agreed, but if you were really all that concerned just ILS

That doesn't really make sense ... they're not concerned about him scoring, they're saying maybe the DT on the crappier player can force lots of to's, etc.

I dt almost any opponent that has less than 20 BH & P, regardless of whether they start or not. The exception is when I think there will be 2 post players that fit the criteria on the court at the same time, then I dt the worst of the 2. It doesn't always cause additional turnovers, but it very seldom bites me and does cause enough turnovers to make it worthwhile in my opinion...

If you are talking about jgetsy, yes, schroedess, no.

Exactly what I was talking about at the time. I was talking about this.

Starters and Distro Roughly:
PG 7%
SG 36%
SF 9%
PF 14%
C 8%

Backups and Distro Roughly:
PG 2%
SG 6%
SF 4%
PF 5%
C 4%

SG 3%
PF 1%

Its about how I remembered it. Since the backup SG was pretty weak I was wondering what people thought about double teaming him.

No sense double teaming a weak player who doesn't get the ball much anyway. If he is that bad he should have TO's whether you DT him or not. If there is a backup who is exceptional AND takes the third most to the most shots out of all the players then I would definitely DT team him. Last thing I want to see is a backup who is good enough to start taking possessions away from the other backups who may not nearly be as good.
