I would not have guessed this guy would have worked out. But he got to the Big Leagues this season. And is still hitting very well.

How is will he hit in his ML career?

He'll get alot of base hits vs. right handers and probably generate quite a few walks.
2/1/2010 6:08 PM
Exactly what he's done, but with a BA of 270-280 (depending on how much you platoon him) instead of .297. The glove and speed make him an OK ML player at .270/.350/.310.

i think he's coming way down from where he's at after 100 AB's...my guess is he settles in somewhere around .220/.325/.240 ...that being said he's a very interesting case...it'd be great if you kept updating this thread letting us know how he fares

his speed is going to get him enough infield hits such that he should do better than .220.

i'm calling .250/.340/.290

I started a thread just like this not too long ago.

The verdict is: split. No telling what he can do.

Rich Brooks is the player I referenced in the thread. He's in AAA right now. He had been dominating at all levels until this season, his first in AAA. He's stinking it up terribly. I no longer see him as a potential leadoff man, but I do value him for his speed and defense and occasional spot start vs ys. I think he'll be a valuable player off my bench.

Difference is Brooks is better vs. LHPs, and there are less of them.

Still, it's interesting to see what quirky ratings lines actually can do. Helps keep the game interesting.

For what it's worth Brooks also has better power and is actually an even better defensive player. When I drafted him I thought of him as a supreme leadoff hitter. Now that I've learned more I know better, but I would have no problem leading him off occasionally vs ys.

Currently 15 of Dicky's 33 hits are infield hits.

Brooks is somewhat of a normal player, he has normal makeup and is more of a complete defenfer.

Chen is the oddest player I have seen, He projects 73/100 splits, his glove wont get that much better but his extremely low makeup has made me wonder how in the hell he does what he is doing.
2/2/2010 1:16 PM
What does makeup have to do with it?
2/3/2010 11:24 AM
As a CF or 2B that guy is very interesting. I'd bet he keeps his OBP around .375 and could be a very nice leadoff hitter for you.

jimmystick, you thought a guy with ZERO CONTACT, was going to be a great leadoff hitter? As Chris Berman would sa, "C'MON MAN!!!!!!!"
2/4/2010 1:31 PM
Second that.
2/4/2010 1:39 PM
Dicky Chen is a leadoff hitter with 2 contact and is now hitting .320.

Well I misunderstood what contact actually does. I didn't think it modified splits, and therefore, I didn't think it would affect his batting average.

Which is why I started the thread... to ask questions and learn more.
