Injury and LTC vs Arb Question Topic

Running a franchise for someone while they're away at basic training and their young stud pitcher went down w/ an arm injury (Labrum tear) in the 1st game of the playoffs. I should still be running things when the world rolls over (Majors), and will have to make a decision to take him to arbitration, or offer him a LTC.

Here's the kid in question:

A) how much would you expect him to bounce back when he returns in the middle of next year? His ratings are still solid enough to want around for a LTC at some point I would think.

B) Will his arb demands lower since his ratings will be lower at seasons end?

C) Will his LTC demands go down as well.

I'd hate to mess this up for him, so I'm turning to those that know more than I do. Obviously until the money comes out, its tough to know if I should take him to Arb for the 2nd time and offer him his demands w/ a LTC offered next season, or get a discounted LTC great enough to extend him right now knowing he'll be ready for the playoffs at season end (baring another injury)

Thanks for any help/advice offered.

He'll return some and he's still a solid pitcher so LT deal is a no brainer.

On the bright side the drop in rating may mean he demands less for a LTC.

thanks, that's what I'm most curious about, will his demands for a LTC come down enough to make it worth skipping the extra season of arbitration? His makeup is high, so perhaps he'd be willing to resign at the end of it all, but he'll probably still be a type A FA in 5 seasons from now, so I assume he'd likely file.

the injury may have resulted in you being able to get a nice deal for a LTC, then having the added perk of him bouncing back from the injury, effectively giving you a better player who should have asked for a bigger contract...

might be a blessing in disguise

I thought OR had nothing to do with demands anymore. I thought it was based on stats now. Somebody clarify for me please.

I would expect little to no bounce back.

Agree, unless you have a very high medical budget. Plus his HE is now only 64, which means he has a real chance of blowing up his shoulder again. I'd be leaning season-to-season, but it would depend on the $$.

That's just horrible advice. The guy is still a really good pitcher even if he doesn't recover at all. Dropping from 76 to 64 in health barely diminishes his value.

i know of no such change and i can't imagine that they would do this...

This was implemented in the Nov. 3 update:

"Arbitration demands will begin reflecting the player’s performance in addition to his ratings. For example, if he was moved to a back up role or out for an extended time with an injury, you won’t see his demands significantly increase."

I was wrong. Ratings still play a part, but they are not the only contributing factor.

FWIW, the player originally posted in this thread has come back off the disabled list middle of this season, w/ the regular owner back in control of the franchise, but I went today to look at how he's recovered.

He recovered pretty close to what he was before, slightly worse, but not significantly and if he recovers a point here and there in a couple of catagories, he'll basically be the same player. Anyhoo:

Just wanted to point out how right I was.
