when do players ratings increase? randomly throughout the season, or at the end/beginning of the season?

Throughout the season. You'll get updates roughly every 35-40 games for most players.

you will get a ratings change in between seasons, start of spring training, opening day and then maybe 4-5 times a season typically about every 30 games or so - it's something like that

you'll get periodic emails from your coaches "LoA Pitching Report" - that's the signal to check on the ratings progression of all your prospects.

Best bet is to "watch" your top prospects. Click on the little binoculars icon for any minor leaguers that you think have major-league potential. Then you can follow them all in the "watch list" (under roster management).

If you check it fairly often -- every 10-20 games -- you'll probably notice when a prospect gets a little ratings bump.
