I want to sign this guy, he is my best SP. He claims he wants 7mil for 3 years. I offered him 8mil for 5 years and an 8mil bonus. REJECTED!!!

I follow up with a 5 year @ 9mil w/ 9mil bonus. Pending.

If he rejects this, what should I do to sign him?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Offer him what he wants. You're trying to lock him down long-term and he's not interested.

You can keep offering him more and more but I don't think it will work.

He's looking for another big deal in his peak years.

Is this preseason (I assume so since you have to wait for him to decide)? My guess is he won't even sign 3 x 7.

okay, I'm gonna go back to the 7mil for 3 years and a 7 mil signing bonus. Would that work?

How often do the responses come out again? Every three or four hours? I got caught last year and lost two good players because I was tinkering too much and I dont that that to happen again.

If he'll sign, the signing bonus doesn't matter, so save your money.

A lot of times they hint that they'll sign, but I've never had a guy like that actually sign...they just keep asking for more. maybe there is some ridiculous threshold they will sign for, but I never bid them up.

If he is yours or was (resign FA period) a signing bonus is just a waste of cash. It won't natter.

You might try just adding a 4th year with a mutual or player option. I've had some success with this. If not, just sign him for the 3 years, no bonus. That's all he's asking for so give it to him. Just realize he'll probably bolt his option year anyway if you go that route.

This guy wanted 4 at 4.8m per and gave me the "Unless you offer......my client is filing for free agency" response. I gave him:

MLB$5.8M$5.8M$6.8M$6.8M-PN$5.0M2/17/2010




Since that's not all user-friendly, 2y/5.8, 2y/6.8, player option, 5m bonus.
