can this guy be a platoon? Topic

I'm thinking of using this guy next year as a platoon against ies...

offensive numbers

78-25-78-42-35-81-82-70

defensive numbers

85-75-60-55 and 85 speed

there is some project , but i don't expect numbers to move much seeing he is 24.

i can see him being a good leadoff guy against ies with lots of steals, good defense at 2b... but with the low Vr and eye i don't think he should play every day.

thought? what numbers could i expect if i platooned him, or played him every day?

What's his base running? Without that, all the speed in the world won't help you steal. At least not effectively.

As a lead off guy, no. His OBP will be poor. Also he'll k a lot.

Edit:I see that he has 81 in base running. That's good but with the low OBP, I put him in the 9 hole. If you indeed play him.

does he bat right handed?

yes he is right handed...

i just wish his eye was better....

He stink- no platoon.

You're welcome.

no way this guy leads off, speed is overrated in the leadoff position, it's all about OBP...this guy doesn't have it...

in fact with his hitting (he'd be lucky to give you .350 OBP/.400 SLG vs ies) i don't think he's very usable at the ML level (regular season) unless he were an excellent defensive shortstop or ace defensive catcher...but not as a 2B/CF

I like him as a 25th man. Fine PR, not the worst guy to PH if you need a single vs LHP, glove is OK enough to play 2B or CF if your real 2B or CF has a 10-day injury, can play 2B against LHP once every 15 days or so to rest your 2B. Nor is it the end of the world if he plays 2B against all LHP-- but it's not advancing you toward a championship, either.

Agree with schuyler that when you do play him he bats 8/9, not 1.

To me, the question "should I use a platoon here" is always primarily about the vsR half. If you happened to have a 2B/CF type who rated something like 80-80-35-65-70, then this guy's good enough to make that a really nice platoon. If you don't have a vsR guy like that, then go find a regular, everyday 2B//CF.

I see a solid bench player.

you can find a better defensive player who equally sucks at hitting off the FA scrap heap in most situations.
