I can't figure out the impact of the push/pull rating. Anybody?

50 means the guy tends to hit the ball back through the middle (at the pitcher). 100 means he pulls everything; 0 means he pushes everything. For a RH hitter, a 100 Pull means the 3b coach needs a helmet and the 3b/SS are going to be busy; if he's LH, 1b and 2b. For a "push" hitter (think Derek Jeter), a RH pushes the ball to the side (1b/2b/RF) more than he pulls it.

That all said, I pay no attention to it.

I started paying attention to the push/pull rating. However, that came after they recoded things to dilute the effectiveness of high-rated power hitters, which we know had greater consequences than what was expected.

Just when I was thinking I could see the benefit of having hitters with a P/P in the 40-60 range in my ball park (with a -1 LF and -1 RF) they changed things so players are back getting more benefit from the power.

It's looking like some of what I attributed to P/P was just another manifestation of the attempt to downgrade power. So like soxfan121 I've now concluded there's no point to studying it further.

It really only makes sense to care about it if you play in an extreme ballpark.
