How much time does this game take? Topic

Is this a really involved game? I heard an ad on the radio for it and thought it sounded quite interesting.

If this is a really involved game (I like games like that) then I will hang around for several seasons.

Can anybody give me an idea what I've gotten myself into?

Are we allowed to pick stadiums too? Looking at all the postings on this forum looks like I picked a fun game.

It's pretty time consuming while you learn. Once you're set up, you can get by on about 10 minutes a day(or you can spend hours if you want). On the weekend, I usually spend about a half hour evaluating the entire organization.

Very Cool. Thanks MikeT23.

Does spending more time equate to a lot more success?

It's a very involved game. You're managing all aspects of a baseball franchise, from setting budgets and signing free agents, making trades, drafting players in the mid-season amateur draft, developing prospects through five levels of minor leagues, making trades with other owners, etc.

Yes, you can pick whatever stadium you want provided that (a) nobody else in your world is already playing in that stadium, and (b) it geographically "fits" in the division your franchise plays in (North, South, East, West).

Check out the "Significant User Posts" thread for info on stadiums and the divisions they can be used.

It shows no public leagues open. How do I find an open league.

drafting players and midseason draft? Very very cool! Glad I signed up!

There are five worlds rolling over to new seasons between now and Friday. Two of those are public worlds, where you'll be able to pick any open team.

The other worlds are private, which means you need to be invited. Check out the HBD Classifieds forum to see which private worlds are looking for owners now.

On another note, where did you hear the add on the radio?

You need to get a handle on your organization's needs/weaknesses and, obviously, address them. Spending enough time to do that is sufficient. Understanding the game equates to more success. It's up to you on how much time that will take.

Some local sportstalk station that our Minor League team is affiliated with runs it. I think they did the commercial because it didn't sound all the professional to me. They also have a FoxSports National thing at the top of every hour so it may have been there. Don't remember exactly. Just kind of heard it while working and thought I'd try it.

Choose a world carefully. Finding a good fit is pretty important.

I'd avoid worlds with 40 win and 120 win teams. It's imbalanced and probably condones tanking. I'd also avoid worlds with more than half a dozen openings. Something went wrong.

Another piece of advice: when you take on your first team, play at least a season or two before taking on a second team if you feel inclined to do so.

Some n00bs seem to think that running two teams will help you learn the game twice as fast. It doesn't. All you end up doing is making the same rookie mistakes x2.

I don't plan on running two teams.

MikeT23, I can't seem to find a good league. The private league people who have talked to me this morning say they won't let new owners in.

The public leagues don't look very good. I saw that some had openings but at the World signup page it said something like "no leagues are open" or something to that effect.
