any ideas on effects? i've looked and seen a lot with 0 range but can't find any with a 0 and 0 just yet that were otherwise good with their ratings

I have never once looked at the range or glove of one of my pitchers ... I'll leave it to others to note whether I should or not, but that is my 2 cents on how much effect it has

I looked at this recently. A large portion of pitchers have 0 glove. Some more have around 25 glove. Only a very few have more. I was surprised -- not very many Greg Maddux type fielders?

Once in a while, you'll see a minus play on a single up the middle that is attributed to a P. Typically, it's a guy with awful range.

I'm not sure I'd ever consider it when evaluation a pitcher, tho.

I'd much rather he be good at... you know.... pitching.

I wondered about the glove of a pitcher. I have a 20 year old in High A with a current 53 glove projecting to 70! He could damn near play 2B and he's a pitcher. I wonder if he'll win the Gold Glove every year.

Sal Floyd got a + play for me with 2 range.

Only if he hits, too.

yeah, i have some guys with poor RA and GL ratings, and it annoys me when they give up (-) plays.

William Suzuki has 0 range and has yet to commit a - play in over 2500 IP.

It seems that pitcher defense is really random.

Question for NL owners (all of my teams are in the AL): Do you look at your SPs hitting at all, or not?
2/24/2010 8:17 PM
i don't pay much attention to pitcher's hitting...i can't imagine many do...

it'd be nice if there were the rare pitcher who was a decent hitter, like Maddux, Glavine, Zambrano and Mike Hampton...i'm thinking 30's and 40's across the board, nothing too crazy...

Zambrano would have at least 65+ power though...
