I have been back and forth in my head about where to slot these guys defensively so I am putting the question out to the masses.

Who do you play in LF and who do you play in RF?

Stephen Milone

Al Ellenwood

On the one hand, Milone has the stronger arm than Ellenwood but his range and arm accuracy are inferior. With the changes to the defensive engine, this is an important decision.

Thoughts?

LF is seeing 50+ more chances than RF since the recent changes. I'd put the range/glove (Ellenwood) in LF--but you may have to revisit it if they get OF throwing errors into the engine.

This is good information to know. It has seemed like it was a pretty sizable increase but I didn't actually check the numbers. That certainly makes the decision easier. Thanks!

Is option #3 to play neither at RF? I mean both are LF defensively and only RF in an emergency (as in no other possible options)

Well, after taking about 2 mins to look at your team, you do have options. You may not like those options and may be looking to replace defense with hitting, but on your ML team alone you have 3 SS and 2 CF that are all better fielders than those 2 LFs. It's your team, run it however you want, but you do have options and if I was choosing neither one of those guys would be playing RF.

Well you are correct in that I have defensive options that I do not like. In my mind, the team needs more offense out of the corner OF than those better defensive options will give me.

Ellenwood is your right fielder.

Well, Ellenwood is by far the better defender. Your ballpark does have a slight advantage to RF, although like some have stated they are noticing trends indicating LF may be having more hits their way.

My 2 cents, Milone's defense is pretty close (or close enough if you are going to sacrifice defense) that I'd put him in LF and put my better defender in RF and try to counter the advantage to RF.

I would put Milone in RF... lower glove, stronger arm. Relative to the recs, he's less likely to kill you.

Neither is really a "great" option, so there are drawbacks either way.

Neither guy will throw out runners so 'arm' won't make a difference.
2/25/2010 9:36 AM
Correct, 44 AA from RF means he's throwing into the dugout so it doesn't really matter that his arm is stronger.

Ellenwood is better in every category except strength. It means he will field better at that position, but will be unable to throwout anyone at homeplate and 3B. Milone is at or above 2 recs for LF (meaning he is below recs on the other 2). Why would you want him at RF if he can barely field his position at LF?

Ellenwood is crap. Trade him to Atlanta.

This is a "pick your poison" question... and I stated why I'd pick that particular poison.

You're welcome to have either one butcher RF in his own way. :)
