Rule 5 and Revocable Waivers Topic

Error: None of your roster moves could be added due to the following reasons:

Roger Russell is a current Rule 5 draft pick. Rule 5 draft picks can not be placed on revokable waivers.

Can anyone direct me to the update that made this change and/or the rationale behind it? Is there some rule in RL that Rule 5 players cannot be traded after the transaction deadline?

In the past in HBD, Rule 5 players could be placed on revocable waivers like normal players, and one of two things would happen - 1) He would be claimed by someone and pulled back, like normal; or 2) He would go unclaimed and the Rule 5 offer back process would be automatically initiated.

Did you send in a ticket?

I have not yet. I skimmed over the update thread but didn't see anything about this so was hoping someone could point out what I've missed there so I can better articulate the ticket.

I thought you had to offer back before you put a player on waivers.

IOW, the team you stole him from gets dibs.

Perhaps that is how it is now, but it's not how it was (as recently as 1-2 seasons ago). Are you aware of any intentional update that was done?

This is what it says in help:

This will begin the process of offering a Rule 5 selection back to his original franchise for $25,000. First, however, the player must go through the waiver process so that the other franchises have a chance to land the player while maintaining his special Rule 5 selection status.

The bolded part tells me other teams get an opportunity first and that wouldn't happen with irrevocable waivers.

So, if you click on Rule5 Offer Back, it starts the waiver process. You can't just put a guy on Waivers as a standalone move.

So then the end result is that (now, as opposed to before) you cannot trade a Rule 5 player after the transaction deadline.

This hasn't always been the case.

Nope. Just tried it:

Error: None of your roster moves could be added due to the following reasons:

Glenn Brooks was taken in the Rule 5 draft and has not been offered back to his original franchise. In order to waive this player, he must first be offered back. Offering a player back will result in them being taken off of your ML team and the 40-man roster, and then put onto waivers. If he clears waivers, he will be offered back to his original franchise. If they accept him back, you lose your rights to this player. If they decline the offer, you can move him however you want.

This is pre-transaction deadline, right? To my knowledge, that's always been how it worked.

Post-deadline, however, you used to be able to put Rule 5 guys on revocable waivers (for the purpose of being able to deal them) and the offer-back process was only initiated if no one claimed the player.

Ah, yeah. Pre-transaction deadline.

I did try on my world that is post and got the same error you got. Never tried before so not sure what it was.

z, previously if you tried to revocable waive a rule 5 guy, he would be placed on the wire--but any claims would actually count. Essentially, it just started the offer back process.

I think to avoid confusion, they are now saying you can't revocable waive him...because that was never allowed--but before you *thought* you were doing it, and that certainly should never happen

In the past, I am (nearly) certain that I both claimed Rule 5 guys who were subsequently pulled back and had Rule 5 guys claimed who could subsequently be traded only to that claiming team.

Interesting. I had a very long ticket discussion with WIS about this when I had a player that I revocably waived who was claimed by another team and taken by that team.

In the end, they finally said that everything was working properly, and that waiving a Rule 5 player in any manner resulted in the offer back process being initiated
