Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Pioneer. Born in New York City, he was officially credited by the US Congress for inventing the modern game of baseball on June 3, 1953. In 1842, he founded the Knickerbocker Baseball Club in Manhattan and Cartwright with a committee from his club drew up rules converting this playground game into a more elaborate and interesting sport to be played by adults. His club participated in the first competitive game under these rules on June 19, 1846, with the Knickerbockers losing 21–1 to the New York Nine. He moved to Hawaii in 1849, served as fire chief of Honolulu 1850 to 1863 and encouraged the growth of baseball on the islands until his death. In 1938, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Alexander Cartwright Progressive League

The Alexander Cartwright Progressive League will begin with the 1885 season.
It will start off as a 12 team league and we will have expansion to 16 in 1901.
As we progress we will discuss the way to expand.
There are about 250 players from 1885 in the WIS database.
AAA will be needed but the AAA players will be below average rating.
After 12 owners are confirmed to play we will have another WIS player get a random order from random.org to set up a snake style draft.
For Season One only teams will not be allowed to have more then 2 pitchers with 500 IP or more on their roster.
After that the restriction will be lifted.
The Franchises available for 1885 are:
Cleveland (National League Park II)
Philadelphia (Jefferson Street grounds)
Cincinnati (League Park II)
Pittsburgh (Exposition Park)
New York (Polo Grounds)
St. Louis (Robison Field)
Boston (South Grounds III)
Chicago (West Side Grounds)
Brooklyn (Washington Park III)
Washington (American League Park)
Detroit (Bennett Park)
Milwaukee (Lloyd Street Grounds)
Baltimore (Oriole Park IV)
When You name your team it must be in the traditional manner-City name followed by nickname.
These are the oldest ball parks WIS offers without repeat cities.
Once new parks are introduced teams may move city/ballpark.
This will leave the abandoned park eligible to be taken by another owner.
Once a ball park is abandoned and not picked up by another owner for the following season it will be considered "torn down" and not eligible to be claimed.
Each draft an eligible players list will be available for the draft. As with most progressive league players drafted remain property of their owner until they are traded, released or retire.
There is no restriction on the number of keepers you can hang on to from season to season and no restriction on how many players you place on IR when they have a missing season.
The selection of city/ballpark is first come-first serve.
The 1st 6 owners will make up the National League, the final 6 the American League.
Interleague play will be allowed to help everyone make the minimum.
Pick your franchise when you sign up.
I will take the last franchise and reside in the AL.
After season one is over draft order for the following season will be based on the salary of your keepers with no regard to past season performance.
The lowest salary of keepers will have the # 1 pick, 2nd lowest pick #2 and so on. No tanking here to get # 1.
There is no limit on salary.
No WW
Trades are allowed.
You can't trade a draft pick more then one season ahead.
For season one we will have a 40 game minimum to participate in the post season.
I would like to see this move to 60 as we progress-that can be discussed later.
All Post Season Games must be played Live!
