How long can you leave somebody at one level for. I took over for a team where the previous owner promoted somebody from HiA to AAA in one year when they had no business doing so. So this player spent last year at AAA, will spend this year at AAA and I am think he needs at least next year at AAA as well. He is a potentially good player but he is only 21 years old and is not close to reaching his projections yet. Are there any ramifications to keeping somebody at one level too long, even if they deserve to be there?

Ive never seen a prospect retire from AAA even if they spend several seasons there. He will develop fine.

to be clearer, guys will retire from AAA eventually ... just not 21 year old guys who happened to spend a couple seasons there

and if you put him on the 40-man when the time comes (to protect him from the Rule 5), I think he will sit around and rot in AAA until he's 40
