Rule V Player Improvement Topic

Anyone ever have a rule V player who improved toward projections in a season? I ask because I have not. Small sample size, but it struck me as interesting.

I assume that since these guys have already had four seasons of development, and that most of my Rule 5 guys are targeted for bench roles with limited playing time, that they will see very little further development.

Which is why I typically don't even look at projected ratings when I'm ranking guys for the R5 draft.

I agree with tec, with the exception guys who are DITR. If you see a guy who improved more points the previous season than the one before that, he will probably continue to improve.

I have had a little success developing learned defensive skills on premium defensive position players who play every day (1 Catcher with AA and PC, and 2 SSs with GL and AA come to mind). No other ratings, though.

That can be a factor of your fielding instructor. What's his fielding IQ?

3 different clubs. SS Richard Jacquez (playing everyday) has improved 5 total ratings points defensively in 54 games so far this season (dev cycle expected tomorrow). FI 85. C Stuart Smith has improved by 4 total ratings points this season, with the season finished but not rolled, having played only 45 games and with a FI of 63. He is near his projection on both AA and PC. Both players also saw 1 rating point boost at the plate (Jacquez vsL and Smith BE). Both players were 4-year pros. Greg Dunham improved by 6 total points despite playing in just 49 games- though most of this seems to be recovery from whatever caused his Season 6 decline.

None of these 3 has been through rollover yet, so they may also get an additional bump in Range/Arm Strength.

Nolan Parrish

Rule V selection in Season 12, has improved 3 OVR points since then.

Rule FIVE.

Rule #5.

Rule 5. As in the number AFTER 4 but before 6.

Not "V" as in the TV show, the roman numeral or peace sign, man.

Ignorance and willful stupidity isn't attractive. Unless you also have breasts.

I think 22 yr old HS picks might improve a touch more than those 24-26 yr old college picks. Most of the improvement is just a byproduct of playing time.

As much as you want to argue about it, if you google "Rule V" you get articles on "Rule 5". Baseball-Reference.com and Hardballtimes.com also have articles on "Rule V".

You mean Lord Google has incorporated its user's ignorance and willful stupidity?! The horror!

You find "Rule V" in the MLB (or HBD) rulebook and I'll give you a cookie.

Just because everyone else is ignorant and willfully stupid doesn't mean you should just give up and follow the crowd. Or maybe it does - perhaps you're comforted by the fact that it doesn't really matter if you "get it right" so long as you can find something on the internet that supports your ignorance and willful stupidity.
