Just to double-check...

Is there any situation where you avoid a demotion penalty other than a player coming off the DL?

And to clarify, do you only avoid the penalty in the DL scenario if the player being demoted is the same player that was promoted at the time of the injury?

1) Demote before the start of ST. And, apparently, if the player was called up after expansion he can be demoted at the end of the season (though I've never done this personally).

2) According to admin, yes. The player had to have been promoted in the same transaction as the injured player going on the DL, and sent back down in the same transaction as the formerly injured player being removed from the DL.

what if a player gets demoted from AA to Hi-A is there any type of penalty? I have a guy that I just picked up in a trade. I think he was promoted to quickly and Ihave a great pitching coach at HI-A. Would like him to develop there but do not want to take a step back with him.

It happens, ggd. I don't know if patience/makeup are the only factors, but the penalty can happen in that case, or at least so, a few seasons ago. (I have sometimes wondered if they are more punitive after a two or more demotions have already occurred recently with a franchise.)

In any case, I'll chip in here again, that if this is a sim, then there should generally be a very quick reinstatement of ratings, after a demoted player is promoted back to the higher level, especially after he is brought up the the big league team (or else, why are players sent to AAA "to improve?").

I recently read about the "impatient" young Ron Santo, who was perhaps promised the job, sent down and was very disappointed, then was brought up. If you ask him, I think he'd say it was a character builder, not something that permanently hampered his career. Thought of HBD. Smirked.
