WIS Brings Steroids Back to HBD? Topic

Here is the ticket I just sent to WIS staff (I hope to post their reply, etc.):

This is about your recent home run adjustments.

Here are the PA's per HR in Dirt this season: 28.5
-- this is when you re-adjusted HR rates after what you did a few months ago

Here are the PA's per HR in Dirt last season (13): 36.1
-- that is roughly when you adjusted HR rates for the highest ranked HR hitters

Here are the PA's per HR in Dirt season 12: 27.2
-- this is before you adjusted for the end of the steroid era

Essentially, it begins to appear that you have brought steroids back. Is this your intention? Are you knuckling under to complaints [by some customers] in favor of distorted play, because of their particular franchises?

Please let us know, thanks.

Addendum:

Here are the PA's per HR in MLB in 2009: 37.1

did you mention that in lowering HR rates, they were "knuckling under to complaints [by some customers]", i.e., you?
3/18/2010 3:47 PM
My impression is that they caved to the whiners.
3/18/2010 3:48 PM
in reducing HRs, yes.

A "whiner" in these things is someone who is having a tough time with his team and blames it on WIS.

Pointing out WIS' inconsistencies with the game they say they are trying to sim is not that. It is complaining, by definition, sure.

But, "You can't do this! I had my whole franchise set up for hitting home runs! Now it doesn't play out!" is by definition, whining.

And in re-increasing them.

WifS will eventually cave to the loudest voice(s). I objected to the first change, I objected to the rollback and I'll object to another change. If changes are coming every 3 months to address the same "problem", the users will never have time to react because seasons are about 3 months long. And the whining will never stop because that's the way to enact change.

My point is they should cave to their own voice.

If they advertise by direct statement or implication that this is a sim generally based upon real MLB, it should be generally based upon real MLB. (And that should be what they advertise and do, since that is what we want to do -- that's why people do HBD.)

That "true north" may need a bit of adjustment from time to time, but makes any adjustment true to life, minimal, and even predictable.

It also will please customers the most, over the long run.

And my point is I'll play the game they present but big changes, and we are talking about big changes, can't be made every three months.

The "problem" with your complaint is that it relates directly to one world. I haven't checked any of mine but I doubt the changes were quite as big in either direction as you're seeing. DIRT is not MG. MG is not Coop. And Coop is not DIRT. An engine change will have different effects in all three due to many factors.

So, as long as WifS listens to a few, many will get varied, and unintended, results.

Feel free to check, everyone.

While the sample size is small, I will say I have seen a staggering increase in HRs hit by my team so far this season since the change...

101 in 83 Now

169 in 162 Last season

234 in 162 Season before

Somewhere in the middle.

But, again, we're talking tiny sample sizes because no one had time to react to the change. The 169 over 162 was pretty damn close to MLB averages(I did 25-30 worlds before they decided to re-update). They shouldn't have changed back so quickly. But changing it again would be just as stupid.

I bumped a thread for you, Arlen. Use it for good and not evil.

Power update examined.

Mike- The Voice of reason. This is a DYNASTY game.

Players are drafted and Int'ls signed, based on the how the game plays. Then developed for 3 or more years. How can the game actually be played if the game is being dramatically changed every season?

Modeling the gradual changes of real MLB would be wonderful.
