The ol’ ’who should start’? Topic

I normally am not fond of these types of threads, but after blowing a few games while figuring out my rotation last year and missing the NT because of it, I thought maybe soliciting some feedback isn't a horrible idea.

Here are my guards:
Name Yr. Pos. A SPD REB DE BLK LP PE BH P WE ST DU FT TOT
Palmer Norvell So. PG 45 70 11 44 12 11 32 73 62 18 64 42 A- 484
Daniel Blair Fr. PG 55 67 11 42 15 1 31 54 66 62 87 51 D+ 542
Harold Steele Sr. SG 58 76 6 53 11 15 73 96 61 9 73 40 D- 571
Tony Long Fr. SG 70 49 14 44 2 30 74 75 49 38 79 15 B+ 539
Thomas Pimentel Fr. SG 71 53 25 51 14 17 65 48 57 24 73 54 C 552

And IQ's:
Norvell: C+ motion B- press
Blair: F motion F press
Steele (incoming transfer): A- motion D- press
Long (redshirt freshman): C+ motion C+ press
Pimentel: C- motion F press

I was thinking Norvell and Steele to start, and I would like Pimentel to redshirt (although he's already rejected the 1st attempt). However, Norvell's stamina is not ideal for a press team. Blair is a better players, except he has no knowledge of the O or D. Would moving Steele to PG and making Long or Pimentel the starter be the way to go? And can I afford to redshirt Pimentel, or do I need the 3rd string depth with the less than elite stamina amongst my guards?

Thank you for your input,

homrbush

Oh, DII team, in case you were wondering.

I would start Steele and Long. Norvell's stamina is really going to be a problem if you try to play him 15+ mins on a press team. Plus, Long can handle the rock a bit, and is going to be a good 3-pt shooter from day 1. Norvell won't shoot the 3 at all.

If Pimentel doesn't go for the RS, have you considered redshirting Blair instead? It would hurt you a bit this yr because his stamina is the highest of your guards, but the upside is that he'll have the best Ath/Spd combo of anyone next year, and could potentially start at the point right away.

Not to steal the post, but I havve a guard duo I am stuck on starting as well. I think I know what I'm doing, and wasn't going to make a post about it but since one is up I figure we can share it. I would like to see if other coaches are thinking along the same lines as me.

This is a D 2 Flex O and 2-3 zone D. Rinker has A+ IQ and Dinardo has B+

Like I said, I think I know my decision but I always like to see who others start in a situation like this.

Hijacker!!! :)

About Long starting, do you think he has enough speed to compete against starters? I kind of saw him as a great bench guard.

And stupid Pimentel won't redshirt. Why start 4 years if you can?
