Platooning Very Young Prospects Topic

Anyone ever tried platooning a top prospect in the majors with only one year of pro experience?

I've got a couple of guys who are already among the best position players in my system, which pretty much stinks after keeping an aging team together one year too long so they could defend their title (they didn't). Despite their ratings being ML-solid, if a little platoon-y, the big knock against these two guys now is their DUR, which is not full-time ready. And I've got a couple of players already to match them up with vs. RH.

Would you do it? Have you done this before? Here's the guys: Max Vega and Danys Sanchez.

Only batting them against ies probably won't give them enough AB to drag them below 100%. With top prospects, I want them batting until they dip to 99%. Then I rest them for 6-8 games and start the process again.

That was my concern, as well, because I usually employ the same playing time pattern in the minors. I'd love to hear from someone who's done this before, though.

I wish chadw09 was still on the site so he could remind me how he used Fausto DeRojas his first couple of years. The thread on his experiment seems to have disappeared.

I can tell you he was playing him well below 100%.

If you aren't contending this year, why rush the prospects?

1. I'm tired of losing, and 2. I need to win 80 games to save my job.

There looks to be some decent options available via free agency, but I expect the market to be competitive.

I always leave my y platoon guys in the minors as long as possible, because once they come up to the majors, they're playing so little that their development gets stunted. I like my young prospects getting as much playing time as possible, even if they're projected to be platoon guys, so I play them every day in the minors until their fatigue starts to show.

Yeah, it will be. I wish I had some prospects I could rush.
