College Baseball Dynasty (12 of 24) Topic

A progressive type league that player last no more than 4 active seasons in. A readem and weep type draft to kick things off using a 4 year block for a college career.

From there we reward teams and coaches who do well. Tanking is not an option here.

60 live for play offs. Read on for more detailed info.

College Baseball Dynasty

Before I even start let me apologize for being long winded. This is a league I have been tinkering with off and on over the past few months and am ready to release it to the people for review but it is complex.

To start the league we will have a one time 25 round draft read em and weep style. The idea here is you often have an idea of what a high school player is capable of but you do not always know for sure. This will serve as the initial base for your college team. To be eligible for the draft, (and this league in general) a player must have 4 years in the sim. After drafting I will distribute the years for your players.

You can then assign the college year to each player. You must assign at least 5 at each grade. Fr, So, Jr and Sr. The remaining 5 players you can assign to any grade.

A few notes and rules on players:

Wrap arounds- A player who is given a year towards the end of their sim career will wrap around to the start of their sim career. For instance lets say you draft Kirby Puckett and get assigned his 1994 season. You can make him a Freshman in 1994 a Sophomore in 1995 a Junior in 1984 and a Senior in 1985.

Missing seasons- A player who has a missing season can either jump ahead to the next season in the sim or take a Red Shirt year. So for instance you draft Chris Carpenter and get his 2000 season. He can be a freshman in 2000 a sophomore in 2001 a junior in 2002 then you can either skip right to 2004 year for his Sr. year or you can give him a Red Shirt and use his 2004 season the following year. All players must use up 4 seasons of eligibility in 5 years. After that they go pro and will not return to the league. No players will go pro after 3 years. Everyone will stay all 4 years.

Okay back to the formation of teams. Now that we have the basis for our teams and we know what sort of holes we have we will recruit for the up coming season. Each owner will nominate 10 players for recruiting each off season. We will then recruit using recruiting points. If a player does not end up with a scholarship they will return to the recruiting pool the following year.

Recruiting points are gained as follows:

(The 4 year average of wins per school + the 4 year average of wins of the head coach)/8. Rounded to the nearest whole number. This number includes playoff wins.

The average for both coach and school is needed because coaches may switch teams as the league goes on. In the early years where there is no history we will assume 81 wins for both coach and school.

Once we have our recruits and our recruiting points we will begin recruiting in the forums. Each school may bid on any recruit. You may bid on as many recruits as you have scholarshipsopen. Each school has 30 scholarships. You do not need to fill all scholarships each year. You may not carry over any recruiting points.

You can post your bid on the recruit. To win the recruit is you must have the high bid at midnight est and not be bid up by the following midnight. Recruiting will go on until all teams are filled or 10 days from the opening of recruiting.

Now that you have filled all 30 scholarships you can pick the 25 who make your travel squad. There will be walk on’s (aaa 6/2 WBA) and you can use them to fill in as needed.

Cuts and Transfers:

You may cut a player at the end of the year but it will cost you 3 recruiting points per cut as it hurts your reputation. Any player cut joins the pool of players to be recruited. They have used up as many seasons as they were on scholarship but they are immediately available to play for anyone who recruits them (aside from the team that cut them).

Any player who does not get at least 50% of their actual AB’s or IP’s in our league will transfer. The player can then be recruited and sit out one red shirt year. Again the player must use up 4 years in 5 so if they already used a red shirt year they cannot be on the travel team.

Moving Schools:

As coaches leave other coaches have a chance to switch schools if they desire. Again they would use the same formula to figure out their recruiting points. New coaches come is as an average of 81 for 4 years to go with the 4 year average of the school they take over.

Stadiums are chosen when we choose schools. Please pick a stadium that is closest to your school or close if the closest is already taken. We will align in a geographic/historical manner.

No WW No trades No DH LIVE MIN 60

Anything I missed? Any questions? Any changes you think need to be made? Let me know.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Why not have a real college baseball league where each team has alumni of one college representing them? That was done before and I forgot who ran it.

I tired to run one about 5 months ago and it never got off the ground. Also this is a completly different concept.

Sounds similar to the first posts in the Survivor sign up thread.

Good to have you. Oh and you can pick a school/stadium.

The University of Vermont will revive its baseball program and head north of the border to play in Jarry Park.

When you say players not given scholarships are "returned to the recruiting pool," does that mean that the next year they can be nominated again or will act as if they had already been nominated?

Also, how would you feel about allowing, say, 3 days for coaches to apply to change schools after the end of the season. If multiple coaches apply for the same job, the winner could be determined by some formula like:

4*(wins previous season + 2*playoff wins + 10 for winning LCS + 10 for winning WS) +
2*(same stuff) 2 and 3 years beforehand +
1* (same stuff) season 4 years beforehand

I would also think a formula like that, while more complicated, could easily be calculated by excel and would be a more realistic method of calculating recruiting points.

I am open to adjusting the recruiting points and yes those with a better track record would have first crack at an open school. I will look into your point method.

And yes a player cut would be like already nominated but he would not have to follow the previous season with his next season. he would be randomized again.

Welcome, stadium and school when ever you decide.

I'm concerned that if not enough nominations overlap, returning those players to the "nominated" pool will lead to ever-increasing numbers of nominated players that might get out of hand.
4/18/2010 7:42 PM
We can cut guys out who are nominated and not offered scholorships if that is a concern for people.

So let me hear what people think about the point system and the players not offered scholorships staying in the pool.
