If I am building a team in the defensive capitol of Tacoma, am I right in assuming I want to go after bats more than defense and pitching? Not ignoring pitching, just spending more on an offense.

Prepare for a lot of answers and little consensus on this question but I've had experience and some success in Tacoma by doing the following:

1) Emphasizing defense - when runs scored are at a premium, every baserunner you can erase is a greater percentage of total offense than a neutral park.

2) For pitchers, I require high control, I can bend a little on splits and gb/fb. I want to minimize walks (which are park neutral) for same reason as above, and I trust my defense to minimize the damage from balls in play.

3) For hitters, I'm willing to bend on Pwr but I want a strong Batting Eye per #1

Good luck.

Thanks for the input. That made me realize I'm only "seeing" this in 2d, hitting and not hitting. I factored in walks, but wasn't really thinking about them as I rated my players. Gives me something to think about with my teams.

I always attempt to build a strong D regardless of park. However, I'd worry less about control from pitchers than DW. My line of reasoning is that my top-notch D and park effects will cut down on hits so a walk is less of a concern than normal. 3 walks = 0 runs without a hit.

On offense, I'd put more focus on baserunning and speed than normal. I'd want my guys who actually get on base to steal an occassional base and take the extra one whenever the opportunity presents itself.

One of my very few strengths is building pitching for a pitchers park.

Control is a must. In a park where you get more outs than normal when it's put into play, get it put into play. Don't give free bases.

Defense is a must, ESPECIALLY up the middle. I'd sacrifice two bats at SS and CF if you think they can get a Gold Glove. See above.

Velocity, not important. Splits still important, but above 55 will do. Pitches 1 through 5 important, but...I have a closer with pitches 77, 64 and 42 up for ROY with Wichita, and another with 2 pitches above 80 gassing over an 8 ERA. Plug em in, figure it out.

Hitters, you'll need advice elsewhere.

As an add on; you can usually get these pitchers cheap, because they get killed in a hitters park.

I'd keep the GB/FB over 55 though, because they still need to pitch on the road.

And I've actually started to figure out the offence in those parks. So there. Nyah.

You can't even spell "offense"

Just because you booted the British doesn't mean that the rest of the English speaking world spells as bad as you.

Or as badly, for that matter.
