Rule 5 Pick Salary the Next Year Topic

I had a rule 5 pick who cleared waivers and was offered back but not accepted who I put in AAA. Now the season has just rolled over and his salary (he is still in AAA) comes up as 327K. Is this a glitch or something to do with salary for rule 5 picks?

No glitch, it stays 327k until he becomes a free agent or you sign him to a new deal.

Really? My one rule 5 from last season is at 55k in AAA...

I've seen it work this way...

Season 1 - Pick Player X in Rule 5 - $327k

Season 2 - Couldn't demote him before rollover so he starts seaosn 2 on ML roster making ML minimum. At this point you can demote him, but will still earn ML minimum.

Season 3 - Will earn Minor League salary if you demoted him in season 2.

That sounds right. Demote him before rollover, and he should be at 55k, as mine was.

But I did demote him before rollover. That is why I am asking.

The only thing I can think of is that the player was under a multiyear contract when he was selected as a rule 5, and so won't renew normally. If that's not the case, submit a ticket.

A player under contract beyond one season is not eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 draft.
