I've got two guys who are both SS. One will need to play 3B.

Who do you go with at SS and why?

Luis Gonzalez and Carlton Waters

gonzalez is a real good 3b. waters is not that great of a hitter and a worse defender.

i'd suggest having gonzalez be your 3b and finding a cheap, good defensive ss instead of waters

Neither. Both are poor SS.

Gonzo would be a great 3B with a good bat/speed and Waters would be a fantastic defensive 2B with a decent bat.

Would you play THIS guy at SS then?

Joey Stokes

as a backup, i guess

ss is a position where defense matters and hitting comes second

you want solid middle infield defenders

Averages are 85 at all defensive spots. That's just averages. The 3 guys you've listed are below to well below average. I've seen guys play those types at SS, but they would be very very good hitters....which none of those guys are.

They are all decent hitters, but wouldn't be worth it with the poor defense.

I would play Gonzalez at 3rd and Waters at SS. If that's what you got, that's what you got. I think shortstop defense can be overrated at times.

Well, when the poor plays mount up, can't say i told ya so. Waters is BELOW average at all defensive ratings. Not worth it with his lack of hitting.

the suggestion for range is 80.

Oops, 80, 85, 85, 85.

Still makes his SS a crappy fielding one.

agreed, but 84 range is pretty good. he'll get to a decent number of balls before booting them or throwing them into the stands.
