another arb clock start question Topic

if i brought a player up last year about halfway into the season, does that start his clock? or, if necessary, would it be beneficial to leave him in minors for the first 25 games this season to delay his arbitration?

If you brought him up halfway through last season, he did not burn an arb year. He will have to play this year, next year, and the year after that to reach his first year of arbitration. Starting him in the minors for 20 minor league days would delay his arb clock another year if you were so inclined, but it is not necessary since you already get an extra year.

A player begins accumulating service time the day he is promoted to the big leagues. If you brought him up halfway through last year, he has ~85 service days. Check this by opening his player card and placing your cursor over the ML Years number - it will display his days of ML service.

IIRC, 172 days = 1 year.

And if I am reading this correctly, it is not accurate. A delay of only 20 days delays arbitration because then the total number of ML days towards arb in that year does not equal a full season. In your case, however, the total number of days in the delayed year + the number of days in the initial call-up year *would* equal a full ML season.
